Death of student: 3 months on, police still await report

BATHINDA: A lab report regarding the verification of handwriting in the answer-sheets and suicide note of Riya (13), a student of St Xavier’s School, is still pending after three months of the incident.

Bathinda, February 11

A lab report regarding the verification of handwriting in the answer-sheets and suicide note of Riya (13), a student of St Xavier’s School, is still pending after three months of the incident.

The police sent the answer-sheets and suicide note 85 days ago to the Forensic Science Laboratory, and also sent some reminders.

Now, SSP Naveen Singla has written a letter to officials of the Forensic Science Laboratory asking for the report as soon as possible.

According to local police officials, when they contacted the lab officials, the standard reply was that the lab receives such cases from all over Punjab, due to which there was some delay in reports.

On the other hand, Amarjeet Singh, father of the deceased, said he had submitted five complaints in writing with senior police officials for the arrest of the accused, but there was no arrest yet. He has also written a letter to the SC commission for the arrest of the accused.

DSP Gurpreet Singh said the report would arrive soon and action would be taken accordingly.

Riya was found unconscious in government quarters locality and later she died at the PGI, Chandigarh.

The police have registered a case against the principal of the school and two teachers on the basis of the suicide note recovered from her bag, which was handed over to the Civil Lines police by her father. — TNS
