Bathinda, May 19

A 45-year-old man, Madhusudan, who was operated upon for brain haemorrhage in the early morning on Sunday, was accompanied by his family members to cast his vote.

Madhusudan, who runs an electric transformers shop at Kikkar Bazaar in Bathinda, did not give in to persistent requests of his family members to not visit the polling booth rather he remained adamant on casting his vote. His family members and relatives apprised him of health risks he could face after moving out the house on the same day when he was operated upon for brain haemorrhage. But Madhusudan had made up his mind a day before surgery was conducted.

Madhusudan, who was accompanied by his wife, children and relatives, reached the polling station at Arya Girls Senior Secondary School. As the polling station was within walking distance of his house (Kikkar Bazaar), he walked around 200 metres to reach the booth to cast his vote.

Talking to Bathinda Tribune, Madhusudan, who had undergone abdominal surgery, said, “I could have stayed back at home thinking that I have been operated upon and discharged from the hospital on the same day. But I chose to walk and cast my vote. There could be many excuses like hot weather and rain, but what propelled me to show up at the polling station was that every vote counts.”

Madhusudan’s wife Nisha Sharma and father Brijmohan Sharma said when our numerous efforts to ask him to stay at home and relax failed, for his happiness we finally gave in and decided to take him to the polling station to cast vote.
