Four days after three members of a family, including a woman and her two children were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their home in Faridkot, the police on Saturday rounded up 30-year-old Dharminder Kumar alias Lovely, the father of the children.

So far the police had been treating it as a case of natural deaths as there was no complainant. However, after Ravi, the younger brother of the deceased woman, Pooja, lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday, the police rounded up Dharminder Kumar.

Ravi has alleged that Dharminder Kumar used to physically beat up his sister under the influence of liquor.

“He was not giving financial or any other kind of support to my sister and her children,” alleged Ravi.

To get rid of them, he killed them and enacted a drama of portraying the murders as a food-poisoning, alleged Ravi.

The postmortem of the deceased, 27-year-old Pooja, her daughter Sonam (7) and son Manik (5) has given hints of them being poisoned as there was froth at the mouths.

In the information about the deaths provided to the police by Dharminder Kumar, it was claimed that he was an electrician and contractual worker with the PSPCL.

On October 9, he had left his house around 5 am for some repair work.

He claimed that without disturbing his wife and children, he left them sleeping and returned home after about four hours and found all of them dead.

The police are now verifying at which places Dharminder Kumar had gone in the wee hours on October 9 and the causes that he had to go out early in the morning.

Faridkot SSP Rajbachan Singh Sandhu said two teams of the police were investigating the case in detail.

“We are hopeful of solving the mystery behind the deaths in the next 24 hours,” the SSP said.
