Bathinda, June 11

The region, bearing the brunt of the heat wave, might get some relief soon as the MeT department has predicted rain from Wednesday onwards.

As per the data made available by the Agri-Met Department of the Punjab Agricultural University’s regional centre in Bathinda, the maximum temperature on Monday was recorded at 44 degrees Celsius and the minimum was recorded at 27.2 degrees Celsius. The city and its adjoining areas will receive 1 mm rain on Wednesday, 4 mm rain on Thursday and 10 mm rain on June 16. However, despite rain, the maximum temperature will hover above 40 degree Celsius. It is learnt that this rain would be due to a cyclonic storm formed over the Lakshadweep, and is likely to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm by Wednesday, while heading north west towards Gujarat.

Meanwhile, hot winds blowing at the speed of 0.8 km per hour on Tuesday forced residents to stay indoors. Market places wore a deserted look during the daytime while those who stepped out did so with their faces covered so as to save themselves from sunburn.
