Slamming the Centre for failing to pass on the global crude oil price reduction benefit to consumers, the Congress today demanded immediate revision of petrol and diesel prices depending on international rates.
“Since May 2014 when the BJP Government came to power, global crude oil prices have fallen by 52%. The price of international crude oil was $108 per barrel in May 2014 and it is $52.73 a barrel today. At this reduced price, diesel should cost Rs 28.85 a litre and petrol Rs 37.13 per litre but the respective prices today are Rs 71.71 and Rs 55.49. Why are the prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene soaring when global crude oil prices are declining?” asked Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari while accusing the government of economic terrorism.
