To jack up freight revenue by increasing the number of cars to be transported by the national carrier, Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu today laid the foundation stone for a dedicated auto car-loading facility at Farrukhnagar near the country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti’s plant at Manesar in Haryana.

“We transport very less number of cars produced by Maruti. Maruti produces around 15 lakh cars but out of it, we provide services only for 40,000 cars. In the next two years, we will be able to transport 25% of the Maruti’s production,” Prabhu said.

He urged the car manufacturing company to come forward with its CSR funds to help further develop the unit.
