Sensex, Nifty close at record high on better financial results

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex on Monday closed at fresh life-time high of 32,245.87 points while the Nifty settled at new peak of 9,966.40 points on buying in oil and gas, banking, IT and FMCG stocks after better-than-expected financial results.

The benchmark BSE Sensex on Monday closed at fresh life-time high of 32,245.87 points while the Nifty settled at new peak of 9,966.40 points on buying in oil and gas, banking, IT and FMCG stocks after better-than-expected financial results.

The 30-share BSE barometer rose to all-time intra-day high of 32,320.86 points as index heavyweight Reliance Industries, ITC and TCS posted strong gains.

The Sensex finally settled higher by 216.98 points, or 0.68 per cent, at 32,245.87 points, its record closing high.

The NSE Nifty, too, rose to all time high of 9,982.05 in day trade. It finally settled at 9,966.40, a gain of 51.15 points over last close.

Reliance Industries rose to 52-week high on the back of robust earnings and announcement of a bonus issue in the rate of one share for every share held. It finally settled with gains of 1.89 per cent at Rs 1,616.10 on BSE.

HDFC Bank rose by 1.83 per cent after it posted 20 per cent growth in net profit.

Among other major gainers, Bharti Airtel, FMCG giant ITC, IT major TCS, Wipro, Infosys, ICICI Bank and SBI posted gains of up to 2.20 per cent. PTI
