2 city residents to be awarded today

Two Patiala residents will receive awards during the Independence Day state-level function to be held in Gurdaspur. Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh will present the award.

A police officer from the district will receive the award for meritorious service while a social activist will get the award for his contribution in the field of social service.

Patiala SP (Investigation) Harwinder Singh Virk has brought laurels to the city as he was the only SP- ranked officer to be shortlisted for the Chief Minister Medal for outstanding devotion to duty to be presented on the occasion of Independence Day.

He has been instrumental in solving many complex cases in the past some years and is known as a tough taskmaster in the district police.

“I have always tried to do my duty with sincerity and honesty. The award will help me focus more on my duty and I am thankful to everyone in my department who helped me in completing the tasks at hand,” he said. Meanwhile, Ravee S Ahluwalia, who is the chief functionary of Patiala Foundation, an NGO, which is working for the welfare of society in the state, has been shortlisted to receive the award from the Chief Minister. He would be getting the award in the social work category.

With a long-term vision in mind and accepting all challenges coming in his path, he has been doing social work since 2009. With the help of the NGO, he has been working on various projects for the needy and poor. His efforts were also recognised in Karnal and the MC, Karnal, associated with one of his projects, ‘iSEWA’ on December 2, 2015, and launched the same for Karnal. The other projects initiated by him include Patiala Green Cabs, Dial-a-Rickshaw and iHERITAGE in association with GoUNESCO.
