70% Indians have oral diseases: Doc

Prof Ashish Jain from Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences, Panjab University, delivered the ‘Colgate Oration’ at the 72nd National Indian Dental Conference at Indore.

The conference, hosted by the India Dental Association (IDA), was held from January 18-20.

Dr Jain spoke on the topic, ‘Whole mouth health’, wherein he emphasised on the role of a dentist in educating the general public on the prevention strategies of oral diseases.

He said oral diseases still affected 50 per cent of the population globally, whereas the number was more than 70% in India.

He said it was the time that the policymakers took stock of the situation and reviewed their policies so that conscious efforts could be made to improve oral health and subsequently the general health of the Indian population.

A plethora of speakers from the US, Sweden and Germany also participated in the conference.
