Eight persons of Chandpur village were injured in a group clash here this morning. The village sarpanch Mehan Singh and his brother were among the injured.
Eight persons belonging to two groups of the village, including two women, were injured in the early morning clash in which a .12 bore gun and sticks were allegedly used. The Majri police have reportedly taken the gun into possession and started investigation into the case.
Shubam Giri, one of the injured, said they were attacked by the village sarpanch Mehan Singh and his brother, Trilochan Singh, due to an old enmity relating to the ongoing vigilance inquiry into alleged embezzlement of Panchayat funds. On the other hand, Mehan Singh alleged that he and his brother were picked up from their house by the other group led by Shubam Giri.
Meanwhile, Mehan Singh said he was attacked by the other party as he wanted to save the common land of the village. SHO Majri Harneak Singh said the police were investigating the matter and recording the statements. The action would be taken as per law, he added.
Later, Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu visited the Kurali Civil Hospital to meet the injured. He said he wanted the police to inquire as to how a firearm, which was used, had not been deposited with the police despite the poll code of conduct being in force.
