Hundreds of professors of 136 aided colleges organised a state-level rally under the banner of the 1,925 Aided Colleges Teacher Front, Punjab, here on Sunday. Demanding regularisation, professors held a protest at Baradari. Protesters said the Punjab government had promised to regularise them on full scale from 30 June, 2018, but till now the government had not issued any letter to fulfil its commitment.

Professors alleged that despite holding PhD and MPhil degrees and UGC NET qualification they were getting only Rs 21,600 as basic pay from the last three years.

The Punjab government recruited them on contractual basis, which was against the UGC Regulations, 2010, they added.

Professors called off the protest after their meeting was fixed with State Higher Education Minister Rajia Sultana at 11 am on October 30 in Chandigarh office.  However, they warned that if their demands were not met in the meeting, they would sit on hunger strike from November 4 onwards.
