Ng On-yee of Hong Kong overcame a resilient Bai Yulu of China in a closely contested final to win the Asian Women’s Snooker Championship at the Sector 19 community centre here on Friday. The World and Asian champion won 3-2.

On-yee started off with a flourish as she wrapped the opening two frames 113-3 67-14. However, Yulu fought her way back into the match with wins in the third and fourth game. On-yee made a 32-point break in the third frame and was looking set to seal the match but 15-year-old Yulu kept her calm and crafted her way to a 59-47 win. She then engineered a 32-point break to pocket the fourth frame 51-11 and level the scores.

Yulu started off with another 32-point break in the fifth frame, but the 28-year-old from Hong Kong banked on her experience to turn the tables on the youngster and seized the game 64-59 to win the title.

Earlier in the semifinals, On-yee registered a 3-1 win over India’s Arantxa Sanchis, while Yulu blanked Varsha Sanjeev 3-0.

In the billiards final, Myanmar’s Nay Thway Oo packed off Praprut Chaithanasakun of Thailand with relative ease to clinch the title.

Praprut, who stunned defending champion Pankaj Advani in the semifinals, looked off-colour today as he lost 2-6. Thway Oo, on the other hand, was consistent and scored five breaks of over 50 points each to maintain the supremacy.

Zhao Jianbo of China, meanwhile, beat Hong Kong’s Cheung Ka Wai to top the U-21 snooker competition. The 15-year-old won 6-3.
