A patient half-century by Yuvraj Rai helped DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, register a three-wicket win over Sukhwinder Tinku Cricket Academy (STCA) on the opening day of the inaugural S Banga Memorial U-19 Invitational Cricket Tournament here on Tuesday.

Chasing 201 for victory, DAV rode on Rai’s 105-ball 81 to reach home in 42.3 overs after the side was struggling at 39/4.

Rai and Arshad Dhiman then got together and steadied the innings with a timely 72-run partnership for the fifth wicket. The duo was separated when Dhiman fell to Harsh on 22.

A few overs later, Arjun claimed Rai to reduce DAV to 131/6. Saksham Nayol, who came in at Rai’s departure, did not last long and was dismissed by Adaab on 18.

However, Aryan Verma and Dipanshu batted sensibly and raised an unbeaten 45-run partnership for the eighth wicket to see the side home.

Verma scored 34 off 39 balls, while Dipanshu remained not out on 22

Arjun was the pick of the bowlers STCA, claiming 4/38. Manas and Harsh claimed a wicket each.

Earlier, electing to bat, STCA were all out for 200 in 43.4 overs. Their innings mainly revolved around a Mohit’s 91-run knock. His 117 ball stay in the middle was studded with four bounders and a six. Adaab made 35, while Kartik added 30 runs to the total.

Gurneet Singh picked three wickets for DAV School. Ranjot Singh and Arshnoor Pannu claimed two wickets each.
