In a freak incident, a 42-year-old biker was washed away in a flooded choe near here on Sunday afternoon.

According to reports, the victim, Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Issapur village, Dera Bassi, along with his friend, was returning to his village from Bhankarpur. When they reached near the flooded choe, the victim’s friend got down from the bike, while Kuldeep Singh, who was riding the bike, tried to cross the choe flooded with rainwater.

Half way across, Kuldeep lost control and started sliding. The victim’s friend raised the alarm following which onlookers and rescue teams managed to reach the vehicle after it drifted downstream and got stuck in a rock. However, Kuldeep could not be traced. Villagers made attempts to save the man, but failed to do so. The search for his body was on. 

In another incident, victim rescued by passersby

In a similar incident, a youth from Mubarikpur was swept away by the water current while crossing the flooded causeway near the Truck Union office in Dera Bassi on Sunday.

However, with the timely intervention of passersby and villagers, the victim was pulled out with the help of a rope. The victim’s motorcycle  was also pulled out later, said sources.
