Residents of colonies and villages in the UT were so enthusiastic to cast vote that they turned up outside at their respective polling stations at least two to three hours in advance.

Voters residing at Colony No. 4 and Sanjay Colony in Industrial Area, Phase-I, queued up outside the polling centres as early as 4 am.

Sambhu Sharma, a BJP worker helping voters near the polling booth at Industrial Area, Phase I, said by 5 am, there were around 100 people in the queue and by 10, the queues stretched up to 500 metres from the polling station.

Four polling stations at Industrial Area, Phase I, witnessed queues since early morning. Voters started gathering at polling stations in Mauli Jagran around 5.30 am, said Manoj Kumar a resident.

Similar scenes were witnessed in Ram Darbar, Dhanas, Mani Majra and Maloya.

Scorching heat could not deter voters from colonies and villages from exercising their franchise. They patiently waited for their turns. At several places, slow polling led to long queues. Nand Lal, who casted his vote at a government school in Colony No. 4, said he had to wait in the queue for around 90 minutes even as there were hardly 20 people ahead of him.
