CHANDIGARH:The National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities – 2018 has been conferred upon Amit Laddi, Senior Scientist at Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) here, for developing a new cost-effective mobility assistive device for improving the life of disabled persons.

The National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities – 2018 has been conferred upon Amit Laddi, Senior Scientist at Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) here, for developing a new cost-effective mobility assistive device for improving the life of disabled persons.

He received the award from Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu at a function held in New Delhi to observe International day of Persons with Disabilities.

Working with the CSIO’s Biomedical Instrumentation Division, Ladi has developed a cost-effective and user-friendly finger gesture-based mobility assistive device that will cater to the needs of persons with locomotor disability and provide them a solution to live independently.

It comprises of finger gesture control module as well as a motion drive unit that can be attached to any mobility cart easily. This technology is extremely useful for the disabled as well as subjects having weak hand muscles who cannot operate mechanical joysticks properly.

About the device

Working with the CSIO’s Biomedical Instrumentation Division, Amit Laddi has developed a cost-effective and user-friendly finger gesture-based mobility assistive device that will cater to the needs of persons with locomotor disability and provide them a solution to live independently.
