Chandigarh, October 15

While various schemes of the UT Administration and the policy pertaining to the security of senior citizens are lying in abeyance, the Second Innings Association (SIA), a body of senior citizens, during a seminar, contemplated constituting a ‘self-help group’ to take care of senior citizens.

RK Garg, founder president of the SIA, said each senior citizen should give some time to call or even meet few other senior citizens. “This will help in building a bond among senior citizens,” he said.

SS Lamba, another senior citizen, said there was a grave need to revive schemes like community policing. “The police beat staff should visit ailing senior citizens living alone to know their well-being,” he said.

The proposal to organise free medical check-up camps for senior citizens was also discussed during the seminar.  DP Singh, another senior citizen, said those capable of serving others should come forward and help fellow senior citizens. — TNS
