Garbage collectors up in arms, to gherao MC office

CHANDIGARH:On a day when the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, will decide the uniform rates of garbage collection, the collectors will be taking out a protest rally against the wet and dry garbage segregation scheme.

On a day when the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, will decide the uniform rates of garbage collection, the collectors will be taking out a protest rally against the wet and dry garbage segregation scheme.

They have decided to take out a rally from Sector 25 to the MC's office. They said that they would not collect waste from households and commercial places on Tuesday. "We will gherao the MC Commissioner and not let the house function. Our strike is only for tomorrow and if our demands are not met, then it will continue. The garbage will be found scattered outside houses," Jai Kishan Dhula, president of Chandigarh door-to-door Garbage Society.  Joint Commissioner Khatri the system was only for their benefit. The MC will distribute two different bins door- to-door for dry and wet garbage, respectively, from June 5. — TNS
