Chandigarh: Hockey Chandigarh will organise trials to select local boys and girls teams for the upcoming U-17 Khelo India Youth Games 2019.



Chandigarh: Hockey Chandigarh will organise trials to select local boys and girls teams for the upcoming U-17 Khelo India Youth Games 2019. The trials will be held on December 8, at the Sector 42 Sports Complex, at 2pm. According to Anil Vohra, General Secretary Hockey Chandigarh, the players born on or after January 1, 2002 and affiliated with the local association can participate in these trials. The players should carry their original birth certificate on the time of the trials.

Chess meet from December 14

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Chess Academy (CCA), in collaboration with Sebiz Finishing School, will organise an All-India Open Chess Championship from December 14 to 16. The organisers have already registered 62 players, out of which 20 are internationally rated. Women Fide Master Tarini Goyal and five- time Punjab Chess Champion Vikas Sharma will be also competing. A total of 46 prizes will be distributed among the winners. The interested players can confirm their entry on www.chandigarhchess. com before December 11. 

Anna wins taekwondo bronze 

Mohali: Anna Patial of ONXY Taekwondo academy, Baltana, won the bronze medal in the 64th National School Games, at Manipur. She won the medal in the girls’ 14kg category. Coach Satinder Singh congratulated Anna.

Shooters demand better facilites  

Chandigarh: Local shooters demanded to have a dedicated range for shotgun, here  in the city. According to Amrinder Singh Cheema, international shotgun shooter,  the city is not having adequate  arrangements for shooters and they have to  practice at private shooting ranges.  “Passionate and professional shotgun shooters from the tricity like Ganemat Sekhon and Angad Veer Singh Bajwa who brought fame along with other shooters have come together to request the concerned authorities for building proper infrastructure to suffice shotgun sport training and tournaments within the tricity,” said Cheema. Meanwhile, earlier this month, the Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh had directed the officials of the engineering and sports departments to prepare the blud print for building a world class shooting range near Sarangpur.

IVCA Academy log 92-run win Panchkula: IVCA Cricket Academy, Derabassi, defeated Gurusagar Cricket Academy, Chandigarh, by eight wickets in the 1st Late Panna Lal Memorial Inter-Academy U-19 Cricket Tournament. Batting first, the Gurusagar boys bundled out on 92 runs in 29.3 overs. Prabhjeet Singh (24) and Dhananjay Sharma (22) were the two main scorers for the side. Mandeep Bhardwaj claimed a five-wicket haul, while Yugham (3/10) and Kamalpreet Saini (2/23) were the other notable wicket takers. In reply, the Derabassi outfit posted 93/2 in 16.4 overs with the help of Tavleen Singh (53) and Sharawan Sharma (28). Lovshek and Kartik claimed one-wickets each for the bowling side. TNS
