Kanupriya’s proposal not taken up

CHANDIGARH: PU Syndicate did not take up PUCSC president Kanupriya''s proposal for quashing of late entry fine on residents of girls'' hostels.

Chandigarh, December 8

PU Syndicate did not take up PUCSC president Kanupriya's proposal for quashing of late entry fine on residents of girls' hostels.

Kanupriya has called for quashing of fines such as Rs 100 for late entry after 11.30 pm, Rs 100 for coming between 11pm and 11.30 pm for the 11th time in a month and Rs 50 for being absent in the hostel register (If a woman student forgets to mark attendance due to any reason at 9 pm every day).

She has also called for only one entry-exit register at all hostel gates for record management instead of maintaining separate registers for night walk, for exiting hostel premises and for inter-hostel movement. She has also demanded representation of the president and secretary of the students' council in the PU Senate and the Panjab University Committee Against Sexual Harassment (PUCASH).

On Saturday, the Syndicate disapproved the new lectures condonation rules. On Kanupriya's demand, the university had allowed up to 10% condonation of lectures by the DSW for participating in cultural festivals and 10% lectures condonation of lectures by the board of control or chairperson of the department concerned.

It was also agreed upon that except the departments governed by any regulatory body such as Bar Coucil of India, All India Council of Technical Education, Dental Council of India and National Council of Teaching Education, 75% attendance would be required for all subjects and not in individual subjects. “We are sorry to say that PU has never had such an irresponsible VC who doesn't feel any responsibility towards the students,” said Hassanpreet Kaur, spokesperson, SFS. — TNS
