As many as eight kiosks were destroyed in fire here on Wednesday night. No loss of life was reported but goods and property worth lakhs were destroyed. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Panic gripped nearby residents after the fire broke out.

As per reports, the fire broke out in one of the kiosks situated in the Lalru market. It spread to other adjoining kiosks in no time as some of the structures were made of wooden planks. Initially, people tried to control the fire by pouring water on it.

It took three fire tenders to bring the situation under control. Fire officials from Dera Bassi claimed of receiving the information around 9.55 pm. After struggling for over two hours, they controlled the fire. The rescue work, which started around 10 pm, went on till late night.
