Krishan Hooda and Sushant Dabas beat Ajay Malik and Madhwin Kamath in straight sets to clinch the boys’ doubles title at the MCC Adidas Nationals Junior (U-18) Tennis Tournament in Chennai today. The top seeds won 7-5 6-4.

Hooda though went down to Kerala’s Akhilendran Indrabalan in the boys’ singles competition. The fourth seed lost 6-7 4-6 in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Chandigarh’s Uddayvir Singh also succumbed in the quarterfinals. The 11th seed went down 5-7 3-6 to Arjun Sriram.

It was a bad day for fancied players as the top three seeds in the girls’ category were also sent packing. Rashmikaa Shrivalli Bhamidipaty of Telangana stunned top seed Salsa Aher of Maharashtra 6-2 7-5, while unseeded Reshma M of Karnataka defeated second seed Kashish Bhatia of Delhi 6-1 2-6 6-2. Third seed Vanshika Choudhary of Uttar Pradesh lost 6-4 2-6 7-5 to Punjab’s Sarah Dev in the quarterfinals.

Kaavya Sawhney, also from Uttar Pradesh, survived the seed-bashing, as she eased past Karnataka’s Vanshita Pathania 6-4 6-2. However, the fourth seed lost 2-6 1-6 to Reshma Maruri of Karnataka in the semifinals on Friday.

Sarah also bowed out of the championship as she fell 3-6 5-7 to Telangana’s Rashmikaa Shrivalli Bhamidipaty in the last-four contest.

Kaavya, meanwhile, combined with Salsa to win the girls’ doubles title. The duo ousted Kashish Bhatia and Bela Tamhankar 6-2 6-2 in the final on Friday.
