Leave of fire personnel cancelled

MOHALI:To prevent any untoward incident amid the Diwali celebrations, the leave of all staff has been cancelled and directions have been issued to them to remain alert to deal with any emergency.

Mohali, October 18

To prevent any untoward incident amid the Diwali celebrations, the leave of all staff has been cancelled and directions have been issued to them to remain alert to deal with any emergency. 

Davinder Singh Dogra, fire officer at Mohali, said as many as 19 firemen, four fire officers and seven drivers would remain on duty on Diwali to deal with any emergency.

“We have cancelled leaves of all officials for the purpose, and directed them to be ready for any emergency,” said Dogra.

He said a total of nine fire tenders along with a rescue tender and two motorcycles equipped with fire extinguishers would be readied for the occasion. “We have also stationed one fire tender at Kurali, which is one of the biggest wholesale cracker markets in the area,” said Dogra.

While making an appeal to the public to make immediate call to the Fire Office in case of any fire, Dogra said they can contact the Mohali Fire Office at 0172-2225902, 2225101.
