Mohali, May 30
Mohali topped the tricity with a pass percentage of 93.24, followed by Panchkula (91.55) and Chandigarh (66.21) in the Class X CBSE examinations, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.
Of the 3,415 students in the Mohali district, 3,184 passed the exams. The pass percentage of girls (96.77) was higher than boys (90.70). Gayatri Sharma of Lawrence Public Senior Secondary School topped the exams scoring 98 per cent marks.
While Amanjot Kaur, another student of Lawrence School, along with Asmita Sharma and Samarpreet Singh, both students of Manav Mangal Smart School, stood second bagging 97.8 per cent. Jasmine Kaur and Harleen Kaur of APJ Public School, Kharar, scored 97.6 per cent. Sangam and Naman Gupta of Manav Mangal, and Ketan Gupta of Lawrence got 97.4 per cent marks.

Gayatri Sharma (Lawrence School)
The topper from Mohali, Gayatri Sharma, wants to make it to ISRO. She has already taken up the medical stream in Class XI with mathematics as additional subject. Her father is a pharmacist while mother is a science teacher at a school in Fatehgarh Sahib. A Mohali resident, Gayatri did not take any tuition and had been the school topper for the past three years. Gayatri loves art and takes to drawing in her free time or goes out to play. She stays away from TV and social media sites.
Amanjot Kaur (Lawrence School)
Amanjot Kaur secured 97.8 per cent marks and wants to study at the PEC. She has taken up the non-medical stream and likes drawing, writing poetry and listening to music. She studied for six to eight hours daily and took tuitions. She stays away from the social media and does not have any phone. Her father is a government employee while her mother is an housewife.
Asmita Sharma (Manav Mangal)
Asmita, who scored 97.8 per cent marks, gave credit of her success her parents and teachers. She wants to be an architect or interior designer. “I studied regularly. It helped me having an edge over others,” said the young girl, a resident of Sector 68. Her father KG Sharma works in the insurance sector while mother Seema Sharma is a government schoolteacher.
Samarpreet Singh (Manav Mangal)
Samarpreet, who got 97.8 per cent marks, gave the credit of his success to the almighty. He is also an ardent cricket fan. “I play cricket on Sunday and watch matches on TV,” he said.
“I did self-study. Concentration is the key for success. I did not use Facebook. WhatsApp was used only for study purposes,” he shared. He wants to gain admission to the IIT and want to study computer science. His father Manmohan Singh is a chemist while mother Gurpreet Kaur is a homemaker.
