Tipsy driver makes off with impounded car

CHANDIGARH: A tipsy driver, whose car was impounded at a drunken driving naka in Sector 26, stole the car and escaped on the intervening night of June 22 and 23.

A tipsy driver, whose car was impounded at a drunken driving naka in Sector 26, stole the car and escaped on the intervening night of June 22 and 23.

The complainant, sub-inspector Suresh Kumar, who is posted in the traffic wing, reported that they had laid a naka near the grain market chowk in Sector 26 on June 22.

He stopped a car, CH 12 (T) 9242, at the naka. The car was being driven by Vishal Malhotra, a resident of Amritsar. Vishal was found drunk following which the car was impounded and a challan issued.

The keys of the impounded car were kept on a table at the naka. The police then got busy challning other vehicles.

“The suspect, who was still present at the naka, stole the car keys and sped away with it,” said a police official.

The traffic police informed the Police Control Room and later submitted a complaint against him following which a case of theft was registered at the Sector 26 police station.
