A sub-inspector of the Haryana Police has been arrested for outraging the modesty of a woman.
The suspect, who is posted in Panchkula, was later released on bail by a local court. According to the police, information regarding a quarrel was received from Sector 23, following which cops reached there.
The police said a 34-year-old woman, who works as a safai karamchari with the Health Department and cleans the roads in Sector 23, alleged that around two months ago, the suspect, Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Sector 23, called her to his house to clean it. She alleged that the suspect had caught her arm with intention to molest her and also touched her inappropriately.
The police said on August 20, the victim narrated the incident to the suspect’s wife. Meanwhile, when the victim was working in the area today, the suspect and his wife reached there and started quarrelling with her.
The woman submitted a written complaint to the police. However, she refused to undergo a medical examination.
A case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC has been registered against the suspect at the Sector 17 police station. The police have initiated an investigation into it.
