Plaksha University to be functional by 2021: Punjab CM

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh laid the foundation stone for Plaksha University at IT City here on Sunday. With this, the “education hub of Punjab” is all set to have its second private university in the next two years.

According to the Chief Minister and founders of Plaksha University, the campus would be functional by 2021. So far, Mohali has Chandigarh University.

Captain Amarinder Singh, who was accompanied by Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal, PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla, Sports Minister Rana Sodhi and Animal Husbandry Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu, said the university would transform the education sector in the state.

“The university will have tie-ups with international institutions. It will play a vital role in strengthening the technological prowess of state’s students,” said he.

Finance Minister Manpreet Badal said the launch of the world-class university was a proud moment for the state. MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu lauded the Chief Minister for facilitating the setting up of another educational facility.

The university, being set up across 50 acres with a capital investment of Rs 2,000 crore spread over 15 years, would cater to 1,000 students in phase I and plans to expand to 8,000 students by 2035. The academic programme, prepared in partnership with UC Berkeley, would be launched in 2019, as the ‘Plaksha Tech Leaders Fellowship’. The undergraduate programme would start in 2021.
