PU Radio to launch new show soon

CHANDIGARH: A new show, “Campus Roundup”, will soon be launched by Panjab University’s Community Radio Station Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz.

A new show, “Campus Roundup”, will soon be launched by Panjab University’s Community Radio Station Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz. This was announced by Prof Karamjeet Singh, Chief Coordinator of Jyotirgamaya and Registrar of the University, during the 8th year celebrations of the radio station on the occasion of 7th World Radio Day organised by the School of Communication Studies (SCS) here today.

He said students of the SCS would cover events that are held across the campus and then prepare a radio package for listeners. Also, a memorandum of understanding between UNICEF and the Community Radio Association had been signed to start a new show, which will talk about child marriage and continuing education of girls. Radio Jyotirgamaya will produce a total of six shows, three each on child marriage and continuing education of girls.

Prof Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions (DUI) and officiating Vice-Chancellor, while appreciating the efforts of the department, traced the history of Radio. During the event, as many as 17 students from Economically Weaker Section (EWS) who successfully completed a certificate course in Radio Production and Programming were awarded certificates and kits by Radio Jyotirgamaya. The next phase of this course will begin in April, for which 33 seats will be available.

Prof Archana R Singh, coordinator of Radio Jyotirgamaya and chairperson of the Department, said PU Radio works for community welfare.
