Panjab University (PU) has slipped to the 150th rank from the last year’s 130th in the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings-2019.
According to rankings released on Tuesday, the varsity also slipped to the 19th place in the country, while it was at the 12th spot in the previous edition.
Latin American, ASEAN and Eastern European countries are covered under these rankings. The overall 2019 ranking comprises nearly 450 universities (increased from 378 universities last year) from 43 countries across four continents.
Indian scenario
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, is the top institution in India and is at 14th spot, followed by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, which is at the 27th place. However, both slipped a place this year in the overall ranking due to increased competition.
The IIT-Roorkee, however, scaled 21 places and in top 40 at 35th position due to improvements in its research (volume, income and reputation) and industry income (knowledge transfer). Meanwhile, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Amrita University are in top 150, while the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, and the IIT-Hyderabad featured for the first time in this group. Prof Rajivlochan, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), said PU would focus on next Times Higher Education' World University Rankings.
