Punjabi singer booked for immigration fraud

MOHALI: Renowned Punjabi singer Preet Brar has been booked for immigration fraud on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.

Mohali, April 25

Renowned Punjabi singer Preet Brar has been booked for immigration fraud on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.

In a complaint submitted to the police, the complainant, Gagandeep Singh, a Kharar resident, had alleged that he had met Brar and another accused Parminder Singh in 2016 in Phase III-B2 Mohali, in connection with going abroad.

Brar allegedly told the victim that he would have to pay Rs 9 lakh to go to England and he would arrange his visa by showing him as a member of singer’s dance troupe.

The victim transferred a total of Rs 4.1 lakh in instalments over a period of six months in 2016 to the accounts of both accused. However, the accused later duped him on the pretext of sending him abroad and did not return his documents, including his passport, and the money. A case has been registered against Brar and Parminder Singh under the IPC and the Immigration Act. In February, a local court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Brar for not appearing for successive court hearings in a property related case.

In 2013, the Mohali police had booked him and his brother on the charges of cheating, criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust on the complaint of Ramandeep Singh. The victim had alleged that they had sold him land for Rs 51 lakh. However, he said the duo had neither handed over the property nor refunded the money. — TNS
