Ropar, August 18

An undertrial in a murder case, identified as Seerat Kaur of Mohali, was caught smuggling some tablets and opium into the district jail here on Friday.

Ropar Jail Superintendent Balbir Singh said Seerat was taken to the Mohali court on Friday for hearing in the case. When she was brought back to the jail, women security guards searched her. Four tablets and about 15 gram of opium was found concealed in her sanitary napkin.

On the complaint of the jail authorities, the local police have registered a case against her under the NDPS Act.

Seerat is the key accused in the murder of her husband Aikom Singh Dhillon. On March 19 last year, the body of 40-year-old Aikom of Mohali was found stuffed in a large suitcase kept in a BMW car parked near a house. The crime was brought to the notice of a PCR team by an auto driver. He had gone to drop a passenger when he saw two women carrying a bag, which seemed to be heavy. They allegedly sought his help in placing it in the car. He got suspicious as his hands got stained with blood. He left immediately and informed a PCR vehicle.

The deceased was later identified as Aikom. Later, the police arrested his wife Seerat for the crime.

Seerat courted controversy once again when she was lodged at the Nabha jail when in June last year she levelled allegations of sexual assault against the Jail Superintendent. A three-member panel after probing the matter, however, termed the allegation as false. After this, she was shifted to the Ludhiana jail. For more than eight months now, she was at the Ropar jail.
