Motorcyclist hit by car, killed

Zirakpur: A man died after his bike was reportedly hit by a car near here on Thursday. The victim has been identified as Chan, a resident of Dera Bassi. The unidentified car driver has been booked. OC

Woman’s purse snatched

Chandigarh: An unknown pedestrian snatched a purse from a woman in Mani Majra. The incident was reported on October 16. The police said the purse contained Rs 10,000, a driving licence, PAN card and an Aadhaar card. A case has been registered. TNS

Theft at Mauli Jagran house

Chandigarh: A theft incident was reported at a house in Mauli Jagran on the intervening night of October 16 and 17. According to the police, complainant Mohan Lal, a resident of Railway Colony, reported that an unknown person has stolen one gold mangalsutra, two pair of gold ear studs, two rings, other jewellery items, Rs 1,000 and a cycle from his house. The police have registered a case. TNS

Man arrested for teasing girl

Chandigarh: The police have arrested a man (33) for eve-teasing a girl at a park in Sector 20. The victim was at a park near her house when the suspect, Rohit a resident of Sector 20, eve-teased her. The police were informed about the incident and a case under Section 354-A of the IPC was registered. TNS

Anti-Stubble Burning Day

Patiala: Senior Secondary Model School, Punjabi University, celebrated the Anti-Stubble Burning Day here on Friday. Cadet Pritam Kumar of 3 PB AIR SQN NCC Patiala talked about the harmful effects of stubble burning. School Principal SK Nirmal Goyal told the students that stubble burning by farmers wrecks the air quality that causes several health hazards besides increasing global warming. TNS

Inter-school declamation

Patiala: To enhance the confidence of budding orators, Bhupindra International Public School (BIPS) organised an inter-school declamation contest on ‘Abrogation of Article 370’. Students of four schools — Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bhupindra International Public School, Adharshila- The Foundation School, Sapt Sring Public School — participated in the contest. Students of BIPS won the first position, but being the host school, they gave away trophies to the next achievers. Indu Sharma, Principal, BIPS, congratulated the winners and appreciated the participants. TNS
