Mohali: Panic gripped the locality opposite Grecian Hospital in Sector 69 here following two back-to-back crime incidents. In the first incident, a motorcycle-borne man snatched the purse of a young nurse of Mayo Hospital. She was going to her residence when the snatcher, wearing a helmet and a blue-coloured shirt, snatched her purse.  In the second incident, a car-borne middle-aged woman allegedly attempted to kidnap a 13-year-old boy from the same spot. According to Simranjit Singh, the boy’s father, he had gone to fetch milk from a Verka booth when a car-borne woman stopped him to ask for an address. “When my son told her the direction, she asked him to sit in her car and take her there to deliver a Diwali gift. As my son refused, she got angry. But by that time, someone came there and she fled,” said Simranjit Singh. TNS

Founder’s day celebrations

Nabha:  Addressing students during the 58 founder’s day celebrations at the Punjab Public School in Nabha, Punjab Health Minister Brahm Mohindra exhorted them to emulate their predecessors and work for a better tomorrow. He lauded the school for producing eminent officers of the Indian armed forces and visionary leaders in other fields. Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot was also present during the celebrations. The Health Minister gave the roll of honour to school alumni Dr Vijay Singh, Professor of Finance at Lehigh University, USA. The lifetime achievement award was conferred upon VN Bhave.  The coveted Cock House Trophy was given to Senior Jumna House. Students presented several cultural items. They showcased their skills in taekwondo and aerobics. Trophies and prizes were awarded to meritorious students by Jai Singh Gill, chairman, executive committee of the school board of governors. TNS

Two robbed in city 

Chandigarh: Two persons were robbed of cash in different parts of the city on Monday. According to the police, Seeraj, a resident of Sector 18, alleged that he had gone to a bank in Sector 19 to deposit Rs 20,000 cash. He alleged that a person approached him on the pretext of helping him deposit the money. The accused then pulled out a knife and threatened the victim. The accused robbed the cash from him and escaped from the spot. A case has been registered at the Sector 19 police station. In another case, Jai Parkash, a resident of Khuda Ali Sher village, alleged three unidentified boys robbed his mobile phone and Rs 200 in cash. The incident took place in Sector 25. A case has been registered at Sector the 11 police station. TNS

Victim’s statement recorded 

Chandigarh: Investigating officer Pratibha Devi recorded the statement of the 10-year-old rape victim against her elder uncle in the court on Tuesday. She was cross-examined. The next hearing in the case is on October 24. Initially, the police had arrested only her elder uncle after. However, the DNA report of her child did not match with her uncle. It was then found out that her younger uncle also raped her. It was he who fathered her child. TNS
