Patiala, April 19
Waterlogged streets on Wednesday had put on display poor network of sewers and storm drains in the city.
Though water receded in areas, including Officer’s Colony, New Officer’s Colony and other posh areas, knee-deep water could be witnessed at the Old Tractor Market at Chandani Chowk. As a result, residents had to wade through water in the evening hours.
“Had the department concerned cleaned drain pipes and deterred people from dumping solid waste in the pipes, the scenario would have been different,” said a resident.
Tarsem, another resident of Model Town said, “Rainwater inundates this area every time. The civic body should work to improve things.”
Officials in the MC said, “Rainwater accumulated only due to heavy rain. The water did not remain blocked till the morning. Recently, we cleaned drains and need cooperation of residents.”
