Victim refuses to ‘recognise’ rape accused cop

CHANDIGARH: A Mumbai-based model today refused to recognise dismissed Sub-Inspector Naveen Phogat in her rape case during resumed hearing in the court.

Chandigarh, April 18

A Mumbai-based model today refused to recognise dismissed Sub-Inspector Naveen Phogat in her rape case during resumed hearing in the court.

On her complaint, a case under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC was registered against Naveen at the Sector 31 police station on October 17 last year.

The victim had alleged that she came to the city to lodge a complaint of fraud against Rahul, a resident of Dhanas. Rahul had fraudulently transferred Rs 12 lakh from her bank account.

Naveen met the victim when he was posted in the cyber cell of the police. Naveen, who was the investigating officer in the complaint, offered to drop the victim at her hotel. After reaching the hotel, Naveen claimed that he had various objectionable videos and pictures of her in his possession and threatened to circulate them on the social media. Naveen blackmailed the victim on the pretext of getting her money back from the culprit and allegedly raped her.

Naveen was earlier suspended after corruption allegations were levelled against him in a Bitcoin forgery case. — TNS
