A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and beaten up by two men, including a 63-year old, at her home in Chhattarpur earlier this week. Both the accused are her neighbours, said a police official. One of the accused was arrested today, said the official.

The girl lives near the Chhattarpur Metro Station with her mother, who is a daily wage labourer, and her two younger siblings, the official said.

After raids were conducted at many places, Ramjani (63), one of the accused, was arrested and police is searching for the second accused, Mohd Islam (45), said Milind Dumbere DCP (Southwest).

According to the DCP, “Several teams have been made to arrest the second accused who he is vagabond.”

“We have registered a case under Sections 376(D) (gangrape) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Vasant Kunj (South) Police Station,” the DCP added.

On Tuesday, the girl’s mother was out on work and her brother and sister had gone out to play when Mohd Islam and Ramjani entered her house.

The girl alleged the two men gagged her and sexually assaulted her. “They physically assaulted the girl and threatened to kill her, if she told anyone about the incident,” the DCP said.

The girl informed her mother about the incident and they approached the police. Medical examination confirmed the sexual assault, the DCP added.
