DCW rescues minor girl employed as help in engineer''s home

The Delhi Commission for Women has rescued an 11-year-old girl of Bihar from the house of a software engineer at Dwarka Modh, where she was "forced" to work as a domestic help.

Acting over a complaint, a DCW team reached the spot and found that the minor was beaten up by her employers regularly as revealed by her during counselling. The little girl had been working as a house help at the employer's place for about five-six months.

The girl informed the commission that she wasn’t allowed to contact her parents and was not given food properly.

“The girl was in a pathetic condition and started crying while narrating her story to our team. When the team tried to rescue the girl, her employer created a huge ruckus,” said a DCW official.

The DCW team then informed Delhi Police and the girl was rescued with their help.

The girl was taken to Uttam Nagar Police Station, where an FIR was registered on statements of the girl under relevant sections of Juvenile Justice Act.

Later, after medical examination, she was produced before the concerned child welfare committee, which has sent the girl to shelter home.

In the case, a woman called on the 181 helpline number and informed the commission that she often hears a girl cry every day in her neighbourhood. Finally, one day she managed to talk to the girl who told her that she is forced to work as a domestic help in the house and that her employers severely beat her regularly.

DCW chief Swati Maliwal stated, “Deeply disturbed with the growing incidences of abuse with minors, I fail to understand how so called educated and well off people treat children who are poor. I appeal to all to report our helpline of any wrong doings occurring around them.”
