New Delhi, October 23

The Delhi government has launched a special drive to keep a check on adulterated sweets across the city in the ongoing festival season.

The city’s Food Safety Department has issued an order directing Food and Civil Supplies Officers (FSOs) to begin the drive against adulterated food items in areas under their jurisdiction. Designated officers have been directed to carry out surprise inspections in their respective districts.

Inspection squads are supposed to randomly lift samples from sweet shops and despatch them for examination. The order stated that strict action will be taken against those indulging in food adulteration at the cost of health of citizens. — TNS
