NEW DELHI: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Imran Hussain today directed officers to redress expeditiously the representations and grievances of citizens to ensure ration card beneficiaries are not deprived of due benefits under the National Food Security Act, 2013.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Imran Hussain today directed officers to redress expeditiously the representations and grievances of citizens to ensure ration card beneficiaries are not deprived of due benefits under the National Food Security Act, 2013.

He was on a surprise visit to headquarters of Food and Civil Supplies Department at Vikas Bhawan, IP Estate, to check its functioning. 

During the visit, Hussain took a round of various branches of the department located at the headquarters. The minister also interacted with Commissioner of the Food and Civil Supplies and Special Commissioner besides other senior officers of the department and enquired about their roles and responsibilities.

The minister emphasised about the need for proper record management for efficient performance of the Department.

He has in recent weeks conducted surprise inspections in Gandhi Nagar, Burari, Mangolpuri and Dwarka to check the functioning of fair price shops (FPS) for distribution of specified food articles. 

The minister directed the officers to forward action taken report duly indicating details of action taken against the erring FPS owners as per law, including suspension/sealing of FPS, if any.

The department was also told to apprise the minister of disciplinary action initiated against department officers/officials found responsible for failure to check malfunctioning of the FPS inspected by the minister.

He reiterated the commitment of the Delhi Government to provide specified food articles to the ration card beneficiaries timely and in prescribed quantities.
