Palampur, June 26

In a pre-dawn raid, the police seized narcotics from a locality on the outskirts of Palampur town.

Over 24 police personnel, under the supervision of Kangra Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Gandhi, were part of the operation team. The operation lasted over six hours.

Talking to mediapersons here this evening, the SP said the police seized 1.75 kg of charas, 500 gm of opium and 400 gm of heroine. A few bottles of illicit liquor were also seized. He said dog squads were also pressed into service for the raid.

The SP said one person had been arrested and more arrests were likely to be made. The accused was a big smuggler of this region and had purchased a Rs 15-lakh bike recently.

The SP said the police had received information that those involved in this illegal business were using unemployed youths to supply narcotics to schoolchildren, migrant labour and local residents. He said the police would continue raids to check the selling of narcotics in the region.
