Seven brides rode horses to reach the marriage venue at Anaj Mandi in Kalayat town of the district today. People from all walks of life watched the brides on horsebacks with keen interest.

Seven couples tied the nuptial knots at a mass marriage function organised by Ekta Dal Samaj Sangthan, a local social organisation. On reaching Anaj Mandi, the processions were welcomed with flower petals by a large number of enthusiasts.

Vicky Ferozpuria, Rocky Mehra, Pappu Lamba, Anshu Sharma, folk singer, and other artistes entertained the gathering.

The organisers expressed their gratitude to all those who came forward to contribute for this noble cause.

Chief guest Rakesh Rana said the girls should be given equal opportunities to play important role in society. “They can no longer be kept confined to four walls of the house. We must give respect to the girls and women who are equal partners in building society,” he said.

Anshu Sharma, who composed a folk song highlighting the adverse impact of female foeticde, asked people not to kill the girl child in womb.
