HOSHIARPUR: A CIA staff team late last night seized nine quintals of poppy husk that was being smuggled from Kashmir in apple boxes.

A CIA staff team late last night seized nine quintals of poppy husk that was being smuggled from Kashmir in apple boxes. Kulwinder Kaur, nambardar of Barian Kalan village, and jeep driver Jagtar Singh, a resident of Bhagowal near Hariana, were arrested.

CIA staff incharge Govinder Kumar said they stopped a jeep for checking at a naka near Lajwanti Complex on the Tanda road. A search of the 90 boxes led to the recovery of 10-kg poppy husk each.

The duo said they had bought the poppy husk in Kashmir for Rs 30 lakh and had planned to deliver it in Hoshiarpur district.
