MANALI, JANUARY 8

After a good spell of snowfall and inclement weather conditions prevailing for three days, the upper Manali region had a sunny day for sometime, providing relief to local residents and tourists from cold. But in the afternoon, the sky was partially cloudy with the sun playing hide and seek. After clearing the snow, the Manali-Naggar-Kullu (left bank) road was opened for light vehicles. All local bus services remained suspended today on the Manali-Naggar-Kullu (left bank) route.

The Manali-Kullu highway was also opened for vehicules. All long-route Manali buses halted near Raison. HPTDC and private Volvos also suspended their services near Raison. Only light vehicles were plying on the roads

However, hundreds of tourists, who were stranded due to the fresh spell of snowfall in Manali areas, were started heading for Kullu.

The power supply in the upper Manali region had been disrupted since Friday evening. Tourists and local residents shivered in cold as the heating devices did not work due to power failure. The famous ski slopes of the Solang valley also received a heavy snowfall. It brought smiles on the faces of ski lovers . The 14,000-ft-high Brighu slopes and the 12,000-ft high Hamta slopes, famous for helicopter-skiing, also experienced heavy snowfall.
