Akhter reviews Central education scheme

SRINAGAR: Minister for Education Naeem Akhter today said efficient teaching system would improve education standards.

Minister for Education Naeem Akhter today said efficient teaching system would improve education standards. He was chairing a meeting to review the progress of various works under the Rashtriya Uchhatar Shiksha Abhiyan.

An official statement said the minister was informed that almost 60 per cent of the physical work had been completed. It added that Rs 54.46 crore was spent on various components of the scheme under the State Higher Education Plan till September against availability of Rs 89.29 crore, of which Rs 77.55 crore was released as Central share by the Union HRD Ministry and Rs 11.74 crore by the state government.

The minister urged the officials to complete projects within time and improvise for benefit of students.

The statement said the cluster university in Jammu had received Rs 17.74 crore, whereas the cluster university in Srinagar had received Rs 17.48 crore.

Akhter directed reframing of various courses to be offered at cluster universities. He said besides handicrafts, modern trade should be taught at universities.

The minister asked officials to develop a world-class model for a multipurpose auditorium. He said such multipurpose halls should be built at every college and university.

He asked the officials to start induction courses for newly appointed lecturers. He said the course would help recruits deliver efficiently and improve the standards of teaching.
