Faridkot, May 3

The post-mortem of Arshdeep Kaur was conducted at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, this evening.

A panel of three doctors, including a gynaecologist, conducted the postmortem in a haste since Akali leaders of Moga wanted to cremate the body today. The doctors got the body from a mortuary at Singhawala village of Moga at 6 pm. They allegedly refused to conduct the postmortem of another body at 4.30 pm.

A heavy police force was deployed at the hospital. After the postmortem, the girl’s body was taken to Lande Ke village in Moga in an ambulance which followed by a convoy of Akali leaders. The girl’s father, Sukhdev Singh, and her brother were taken to Moga in a vehicle of a car agency dealer escorted by police vans about 30 minutes before the completion of the postmortem. The ambulance carrying the body left the Forensic Department of the hospital at 7 pm. Sources said all efforts were made to save every single minute.

Police force was deployed on the entire stretch leading from Faridkot to Lande Ke village in Moga to ensure no time was wasted due to traffic congestion.

Sukhdev wanted the cremation to take place tomorrow on the plea that cremation after dusk was against the rituals. Senior officials tried their best to convince Sukhdev and even made him talk to CM Parkash Singh Badal on his mobile phone.
