Dehradun, July 24

The yatra to the Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines was disrupted today due to landslides triggered by heavy rain. However, the yatra to the Hemkund Sahib and Kedarnath shrines continued smoothly.

The Rishikesh-Badrinath highway was blocked at Jaikandi near Karanprayag and Maithana near Nandprayag due to debris brought down by heavy rain.

Similarly, the road to Gangotri was blocked at Raturi Sera and Badethi Chungi due to landslides.

On the other hand, several houses are under verge of collapse at Bangaon Malla village in Rudraprayag district.

Balbir Singh Negi, a local resident, has sought immediate repairs of damaged embankments, which he said could collapse anytime. This would result in subsequent collapse of several houses in the village, he added.

Meanwhile, two houses on the Sahiya Kwano road in Dehradun district collapsed due to rain. However, there was no loss of life as no one was inside the houses at the time of the incident.

The Mussoorie-Chakrata road was blocked at Kandikhal due to landslides. However, authorities were working on a war footing to remove the debris.

As per the Met office, there will be more rains in the state in the next few days.
