Karnal, October 20

Municipal Councillors came away empty handed as Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar declined their demand of providing them with the power to spend up to Rs 20,000 on their own on small development works.

During a meeting with the CM at the PWD Rest House, the councillors said they cannot carry out any development work without tender process leading to increased time consumption. There should be a provision allowing councillors to spend money on their own on the development work, said a councillor to the CM. The CM reportedly declined their demand.

Sources said the CM also declined councillors’ demand to increase their honorarium.

The CM, however, took a critical note of the presence of relatives of the councillors in the meeting. He told them that the councillors should themselves be present at the meetings.

Sources said relatives of the councillors had earlier also attended the official meetings, including the meeting of the house, instead of councillors themselves.
