Haridwar, December 15

The Haridwar unit of the National Union of Journalists of India (NUJI) orgainsed a function at Town Hall here to honour differently-abled people and boost their morale.

People from different sections of society participated in the programme called ‘Flight of Courage’. The Abhi Prerna Foundation, an NGO working to train mentally challenged students, was honoured on the occasion.

Saints Mahant Ravindra Puri Maharaj, Mahant Rishishwaranand, College of Engineering Managing Director JC Jain and Mayor Manoj Garg urged people and organisations to hold similar programmes to acknowledge their love, warmth, respect, recognition and support for the differently-abled people.

Arthav Chaudhari, Harsh Taneja, Unnati, Alisha, and Shashank; all students of the Abhi Prerna Foundation; Kulwansh Walia, Jayesh Komal, and Sumit Chanchal, all students of Samarth Special School; Dinesh Chandra, Manish, Pravendra, Mukesh, and Mohit, students of Swami Azranand Andh Vidyalaya, Bhoopatwala; and Visu Aneja, Vijay Tyagi, Adnan Ahmed, Devesh Kumar and Rajat Gupta, all students of the IIT, Roorkee, (hearing and speech impaired wing) were honoured for their achievements. Pradeep Negi, a President’s Medal awardee and teacher of Swami Azranand Andh Vidyalaya, was also felicitated for his outstanding contribution to education of visually challenged students.

Differently-abled children showcased their talent. Pt Harsh Wardhan Joshi recited Saraswati Vandana while students of Samarth Special School presented a dance-based skit.

Special prizes were given to Akshit Chauhan, Prince Rathi, Akanksha, Ashu Kumar, Rakesh, Chitranjan Rawat, Rahul Rai, Sazia, Shaheen, Rukshar and Aniket Pandey, all students of Tulsi Das Charan Das Kanya Junior High School.
