On the penultimate day of the Punjab Schools Inter-District State Hockey Championship for Boys being held at Prithipal Singh Memorial AstroTurf Stadium of Punjab Agricultural University today, Jarkhar Academy beat Kila Raipur (2-0) to move closer to the title.
In an absorbing super league encounter, Jarkhar Academy survived a scare before wrapping the issue. Jarkhar Academy went into lead through Lovejeet Singh in the eighth minute. They pressed hard to increase the lead but Kila Raipur players thwarted their all attempts.
Kila Raipur, too, made concerted efforts to restore parity but failed to capitalise the opportunities that came their way. After changing ends, Joginder Singh of Jarkhar Academy pumped in a goal to seal Kila Raipur lads’ fate (2-0).
In their second super league match, Jarkhar Academy overwhelmed Bathinda district (7-0), while Kila Raipur defeated Jalandhar district (5-2) and Jalandhar district overpowered Bathinda district (2-1).
Daronacharya Awardee Baldev Singh along with Ajit Pal Singh, Assistant Education Officer (Sports), Principal Amrik Singh, Paramjit Kaur, Satinder Kaur, Manpreet Singh and Harminder Pal Singh (coaches) and Amrik Singh Minhas, SP, Moga were the guests of honour today.
