Killer driver rescued from irate mob

Dehradun, February 23

In a bizarre incident, a 14-year-old girl was run over by a tractor trailer in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand today. The irate mob that gathered on the spot tried to lynch the driver of the tractor trailerbut the presence of vigilant police prevented the mishap.

The incident happened in the Luxor area of Haridwar during morning hours. Victim Payal (15), a resident of Goverdhanpur, was on her bicycle to purchase milk when an overloaded tractor trailer carrying construction material crushed her.

Seeing the mutilated body of the girl, a large crowd that had gathered there pulled the driver out from the tractor and tried to lynch him but was prevented from doing so by the police that reached the scene on getting the information about the incident. The irate mob also tried to set the tractor trailer on fire.

The police had a tough time taking the victim’s body for post-mortem examination. The mob also resorted to sloganeering against the police and the district administration. A heavy police contingent had to brought in to control the crowd and avoid any untoward incident. — TNS
